The word sensual is the word that comes to mind, as defined in the dictionary;
The enjoyment, expression, or pursuit of physical, especially sexual, pleasure.
The condition of being pleasing or fulfilling to the senses.
What is Sensuality?
There is for me nothing sexual about the word sensual, or what comes to mind when I think of being sensual. I do think of the art of lovemaking. Art for me is sensual. Love making can be and I am sure we desire it to be sensual, involving all of those senses, taste, smell, seeing. They say the brain is the most powerful sexual organ because I suspect we use all of our senses. I would like to reintroduce the word sensual into all things that we are, that we do. You don’t have to be of any specific age or gender to be sensual, and I think it can be cultivated. In perhaps the oldest of lovemaking guides, the Karma Sutra, the ancient wise ones were very specific as to the requirements of lovemaking, sensuality is a large part of their teachings.
We can cultivate sensuality in many ways and it has many expressions. How we prepare ourselves to meet our lover, enjoying the bath that is perhaps perfumed with a little essential oil, lighting candles in our bedroom to create atmosphere, anointing our body’s with a perfume of oil. These rituals start with self, in recognition that we are sensual beings, and it doesn’t have to include a partner, it can be simply a gift to your inner God or goddess, honoring that part of you that is a divine being.
We can all include self-love in our daily life, moments when we are grateful for all that we are, all that we are to become. A reconnection to that part of you that is still, that is slow, that rekindles the fire of all senses, in the art of sensuality.
